Waterfront promenade, Lake Klopein

One of the most important infrastructural facilities in a tourist area is a promenade. From this point of view, it was logical that the municipality of St. Kanzian gave the go-ahead for the redesign of the forty-year-old lakeside promenade in 2007.

This connection was basically a state road that was rededicated as a pedestrian zone due to the increasing traffic in the 70s. An innovative and sustainable step at a time when society was just beginning to glorify the car.

With this move, a structure was developed that still today gives the municipality a terrific advantage. A two-kilometer long continuous connection that runs directly along the lake. There is no such long walkway on any Carinthian lake.

As is so often the case, this potential was lost in the course of time due to uncontrolled growth. There were old concrete benches, poor lighting, screaming advertising, holey asphalt, musty corners, cheap gastronomy, no playgrounds, lack of information and much more.

Our task was to redesign the lake promenade in the area of the northern shore of Lake Klopein from the center of Seelach to the eastern shore (length approx. 2,000m). Thereby the potential of the incomparable location should be raised. As a special highlight, the municipality decided to provide lake access by separating a part from the municipal beach bath.

Eine der wichtigsten Infrastruktureinrichtungen in einem Tourismusgebiet ist eine Promenade. So gesehen war es logisch, dass die Gemeinde St. Kanzian im Jahr 2007 den Startschuss zur Neugestaltung der vierzig Jahre alten See-Promenade gab.

Diese Verbindung war im Grunde genommen eine Landesstraße die aufgrund des ansteigenden Verkehrs in den 70er Jahren zur Fußgängerzone umgewidmet wurde. Ein innovativer und nachhaltiger Schritt zu einer Zeit in der die Gesellschaft gerade begann das Auto zu verherrlichen.

Mit diesem Schachzug wurde eine Struktur entwickelt, die der Gemeinde noch heute einen grandiosen Vorteil verschafft. Eine zwei Kilometer lange, durchgehende Verbindung die direkt am See entlangläuft. Einen derartig langen Spazierweg gibt es an keinem Kärntner See.

Wie so oft wurde dieses Potenzial im Laufe der Zeit durch Wildwuchs vergeben. Es gab alte Betonbänke, schlechte Beleuchtung, schreiende Werbung, löchrigen Asphalt, muffige Ecken, billige Gastronomie, keine Spielplätze, fehlende Information und vieles mehr.

Unsere Aufgabe war die Neugestaltung der Seepromenade im Bereich des Nordufers des Klopeiner Sees vom Zentrum Seelach bis zum Ostufer (Länge ca. 2.000m). Dabei sollte das Potenzial der unvergleichlichen Lage gehoben werden. Als besonderes Highlight beschloss die Gemeinde einen Seezugang zu ermöglichen, indem ein Teil vom Gemeindestrandbad abgetrennt wurde.
