The süd°see summer festival needs a sensitive architectural realization. It is a place that should serve as a stage for a great variety of events. It
should be possible large events with several hundred participants as well as intimate prose readings with 10 listeners. The whole design is related to three important themes:
Fire – Water – Community
The theme of fire is symbolic of warming campfires, hypnotic flames and generally an archaic experience. A fire pit is ideal for bad weather days, but also for warm summer nights. It captivates both children and adults and, with the smell of smoke, has a feel all its own. The fire is positioned more on the edge of the square so as not to interfere with other activities.
The theme of water arises from the previously unnoticed and stunted lake drain. This chance simply cannot be missed – to bring the Klopeinersee directly to the square! We dig out the lake outlet again and make it tangible, understandable and visible. With a light installation and water games, the water is staged in many ways and can show its full effect, especially at night.
A square is a temporary community. We want to use architecture to promote dialogue at all levels. And in this case, that also means structural levels that structure the square, demarcate small areas and create different zones.
This is important in order to allow a wide variety of events to take place, possibly even simultaneously. At the same time, the square will always have to serve commercial interests. Not all visitors will participate in the events but simply want to have a nice evening with good food and drink. We make this possible with the well thought-out design of simultaneity.
The square opens generously to the street and thus draws the visitors in. As it stands, the area slopes down about 150-170cm to the lake drain. We use this slope for a terraced gradation to the newly created lake basin. Three buildings delimit the square and frame an arena-shaped seating and gehlandscape.
Das süd°see Sommerfestival braucht eine einfühlsame architektonische Umsetzung. Es ist ein Platz der als Bühne für eine grosse Vielfalt an Veranstaltungen dienen soll. Es
sollen Großevents mit einigen hundert Teilnehmern ebenso möglich sein wie intime Prosalesungen mit 10 Zuhörern. Die gesamte Gestaltung bezieht sich auf drei wichtige Themen:
Feuer – Wasser – Gemeinschaft
Das Thema Feuer steht symbolisch für wärmendes Lagerfeuer, hypnotische Flammen und generell einem archaisches Erlebnis. Eine Feuerstelle ist ideal für Schlechtwettertage geeignet, aber auch für warme Sommernächte. Es zieht sowohl Kinder als auch Erwachsene in seinen Bann und hat mit dem Rauchgeruch eine ganz eigene Haptik. Das Feuer ist eher am Rande des Platzes positioniert um weitere Aktivitäten nicht zu behindern.
Das Thema Wasser ergibt sich aus dem bisher unbeachteten und verkümmerten Seeabfluss. Diese Chance darf man sich einfach nicht entgehen lassen – den Klopeinersee direkt an den Platz zu bringen! Wir graben den Seeabfluss wieder aus und machen ihn erlebbar, begreifbar und sichtbar. Mit einer Lichtinstallation und Wasserspielen wird das Wasser vielfältig inszeniert und kann seine volle Wirkung vor allem in der Nacht ausspielen.
Ein Platz ist eine Gemeinschaft auf Zeit. Wir wollen mit der Architektur den Dialog auf allen Ebenen fördern. Und das bedeutet in diesem Fall auch bauliche Ebenen, die den Platz strukturieren, kleine Bereiche abgrenzen und unterschiedliche Zonen schaffen.
Das ist wichtig um verschiedenste Events eventuell sogar zeitgleich ablaufen zu lassen. Zugleich wird der Platz auch immer kommerzielle Interessen bedienen müssen. Nicht alle Besucher werden an den Events teilnehmen sondern wollen einfach einen netten Abend bei gutem Essen und Trinken erleben. Das ermöglichen wir mit dem durchdachten Design der Gleichzeitigkeit.
Der Platz öffnet sich großzügig zur Straße und zieht damit die Besucher hinein. Im Bestand fällt das Areal um ca. 150-170cm zum Seeabfluss hinunter. Dieses Gefälle nutzen wir für eine terrassenförmige Abstufung zum neu geschaffenen Seebecken. Drei Gebäude begrenzen den Platz und umrahmen eine arenaförmige Sitz und Gehlandschaft.
